In 2003, while living abroad in England, Shawnee Small decided to step away from her career in the UK videogames industry to pursue her vision of perfect cake.

After a few false starts including a short stint as a reflexologist and stained glass artist, Shawnee went back to her Southern roots and looked to the long line of strong, women bakers in her family for inspiration.  And it seemed to work.

She wasted no time in getting involved in the British cake community and pursued her professional qualifications by training with some of the best cake designers in the UK including the number one novelty cake designer, Debbie Brown.  Shawnee has also taken professional cake courses through Surrey Adult Education, Squires International School of Cake Decorating and Sugarcraft, and local British speciality stores such as Cascades Too.

The small cake company was founded in 2004 and Shawnee has not looked back since.  Although a relative newcomer to the bakery business, Shawnee has already won awards for her unique cake work and has recently appeared with her work in The South Magazine, The Savannah Morning News, and on Coastal Sunrise on WSAV-NBC.

When she's not designing cakes, Shawnee is also a culinary arts instructor, teaching both professional and public classes.  For information on classes and workshops, please visit the classes section.

Shawnee is an established member of the Southeastern Retail Bakers Association, British Sugarcraft Guild (BSG) and International Cake Exploration Societe (ICES).
